Dining in St. John’s can be quite an experience! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served in the main dining hall and you can also get lunch in the more modern alternative of the Kendrew Café, in Kendrew Quad. All meals are also very cheap (with most meals costing under £5) and eating in college can be a great way to meet some of your fellow graduates.
Eating in hall in the evening can be approached in two different ways: you can go to the earlier sitting (‘informal’) where food is served canteen-style and there are no dress requirements. The later sitting, ‘formal’ hall, uses the more traditional approach; a three-course candlelit dinner is served to guests, and beverages can be ordered from the Buttery. Students are also required to wear a gown during formal hall, so this is very much a chance to embrace your inner Harry Potter!
You can find more details on meal times, meal booking arrangements, prices, and other food facilities on the main College website.
The College sign-in default is your Bodcard Number and your date of birth in the arrangement 010101990 if you were born on 1st January 1990. Please note that the deadline for signing up to formal hall is 11am the day of the dinner.
